We can help!

To modify your dog's behavior, we need to identify and understand the underlying causes of the behavior.

In behavior modification training, we will focus on introducing structure into your dog's life and help incorporate healthy habits into your dog care routine. Hand & Paw Dogs may also use desensitization and counter-conditioning techniques to help the dog overcome fear or anxiety related to certain stimuli or situations. If you're looking for a way to make your furry friend a happier and safer companion, then this method is exactly how you achieve that.

SEVERE SEPERATION ANXIETY

Dogs can develop Separation Anxiety when they're left alone after becoming dependent on their family's company. This issue can have negative consequences, but it can be managed effectively if addressed early. Symptoms of separation anxiety can include:

  • Vocalization (excessive howling and barking)

  • Inappropriate toileting

  • Destructive behavior (like chewing and digging)

  • Excessive panting

  • Pacing and drooling

LEASH REACTIVITY

Dogs often bark and lunge at other dogs while on a leash, a behavior known as "leash reactivity." It can be caused by fear or dislike of other dogs due to a bad experience or lack of socialization during puppyhood. Symptoms of Leash Reactivity:

  • Your dog whines or barks at people, dogs, cars, etc on leash.

  • Your dog lunges or excessively strains at the leash when seeing a stimulus.

  • Your dog redirects onto the leash or onto you by biting, nipping, or shaking.

  • Your dog engages in similar behaviors behind a window, fence, or gate.

DESTRUCTIVE CHEWING/ DIGGING

Chewing is a natural and normal dog behavior. However, chewing and digging that destroys your home and property are unhealthy behaviors and unsafe for your dog. A lack of exercise or training may cause destructive behavior. Symptoms of Destructive behavior include:

  • Chewing on furniture

  • Chewing on carpet, rugs, flooring, and/or baseboard

  • Digging holes in the yard

  • Excessively licking self or objects

  • Escaping from a confined area or chewing through doors or windows
